On Day 13 of the Paris Olympics, Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra brought home a silver medal in men’s javelin throw. Despite being the defending champion, he managed a throw of 89.45 meters, which was his only valid attempt in the finals.

The gold medal went to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who made headlines by smashing the Olympic record with a stunning throw of 92.97 meters. This victory marked a significant achievement for Pakistan, as it was their first Olympic medal in 32 years.

In addition to Chopra’s achievement, the Indian men’s hockey team also made the nation proud by clinching the bronze medal, beating Spain 2-1. This win is notable as it marks India’s second consecutive bronze medal in the event, a feat not seen in over half a century.

The hockey match had its ups and downs, with Spain initially taking the lead through a penalty stroke. However, India equalized just before halftime when Harmanpreet Singh scored from a penalty corner. In the second half, Harmanpreet struck again, giving India the lead.

The day wasn’t all celebrations, though. Wrestler Vinesh Phogat shocked fans as she announced her retirement from the sport after being disqualified due to a weight cut failure just hours before her bout. She is appealing for a joint silver medal, with hearings set for the coming days.

Other wrestlers had mixed results; Anshu Malik and Antim Panghal stumbled in their categories, while Aman Sehrawat shone by advancing to the semifinals in the men’s freestyle 57kg wrestling. However, his journey was halted by Japan’s Rei Higuchi in a tough semifinal bout.
