Nelly Arrested at Missouri Casino Over Old Warrant
Nelly, the rapper known for hits like «Hot in Herre,» found himself in a bit of trouble early Wednesday morning in St. Louis. He was arrested at 4:45 a.m. while at the Hollywood Casino, and it all stemmed from an old warrant that popped up during a routine check by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The arrest happened during a process called identification verification as part of the state gaming regulations. It appears that Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes Jr., was having a good time when officers informed him that there was an active warrant for his arrest related to a 2018 citation for no proof of insurance. He was taken into custody without a fuss.
Things got a little more complicated when officers searched Nelly and reportedly found four pills, which preliminarily tested for Ecstasy. Despite this, Nelly’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, clarified that his client was not charged with drug possession. Instead, he was just arrested due to that old warrant.
Rosenblum didn’t hold back, describing the situation as overzealous, saying that the officer was out of line. According to him, Nelly never received any notice about the warrant and should have been allowed to go on his way after being informed about it.
The lawyer also mentioned that Nelly had won several jackpots at the casino recently, implying that the officer might have gone a bit overboard with the background check. He pointed out that it was unnecessary since Nelly had been at the casino for similar winnings without incident before.
The rapper was held briefly before being released, and while the whole situation sounds chaotic, it’s clear that Nelly had a rough start to his morning.
