President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa has unveiled the new appointments to his cabinet, marking a significant shift in the Government of National Unity. Among the prominent leaders included in the coalition are Pieter Groenewald, John Steenhuisen, Velenkosini Hlabisa, Gayton McKenzie, and Patricia de Lille.

After rigorous negotiations lasting over two weeks, the President announced the restructuring of his executive branch on Sunday night. The reshuffling involved the separation of the Department of Justice from the Correctional Services Ministry.

Pieter Groenewald of the Freedom Front Plus party was appointed as the Minister of Correctional Services, with Lindiwe Ntshalintshali from the ANC designated as his deputy.

Pieter Groenewald, who has been at the helm of FF Plus since 2016, brings vast experience to the role, having previously served as an MP and on the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Policing.

In another key appointment, Velenkosini Hlabisa, the leader of the IFP, takes over from Thembi Nkadimeng as the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs. His deputies are Dickson Masemola and Zolile Burns-Ncamashe from the ANC.

The latest cabinet appointments are set to shape the direction of South Africa’s governance and underscore the collaborative efforts within the Government of National Unity to drive positive change and progress.
