New England Patriots Tipped to Select North Carolina Quarterback in 2024 NFL Draft
The New England Patriots seem to have a clear target in mind for the 2024 NFL Draft, with reports indicating that they are leaning towards selecting a quarterback from North Carolina.
According to NBC Sports Boston, the Patriots are likely to pick North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye with the third overall pick, unless they receive an offer they can’t refuse from another team like the Minnesota Vikings or New York Giants.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz mentioned that the Giants have been actively pursuing a trade to secure the No. 3 pick from New England in hopes of drafting Maye.
Maye, ranked as the No. 3 overall player by Bleacher Report, is viewed as a crucial pick for the Patriots, who are in need of a quarterback following the departure of Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Former NFL player Merril Hoge has been vocal in his criticism of Maye, labeling him as ‘marginal at best’ and highlighting concerns about his accuracy and consistency as a passer.
Despite the mixed opinions, Maye remains one of the top quarterback prospects alongside Caleb Williams of USC and Jayden Daniels from LSU.
If the Patriots do select Maye, it could have long-term implications for the organization as they look to rebuild following a disappointing season and the departure of longtime coach Bill Belichick.
