New Zealand vs Papua New Guinea: Southee, Ferguson strike early, put New Zealand in control vs Papua New Guinea

New Zealand‘s bowlers Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee struck early blows in the T20 World Cup match against Papua New Guinea, putting the Kiwis in control at Tarouba.

After winning the toss and electing to field first, New Zealand came out all guns blazing with Ferguson and Southee making immediate impact.

Southee drew first blood by dismissing Papua New Guinea’s Tony Ura early on with a smart piece of bowling. Ura nicked one behind to Glenn Phillips in the slips.

Ferguson then joined the party, removing Assad Vala with an excellent delivery that found the outside edge and went straight to Daryl Mitchell at slip.

As Papua New Guinea struggled to find their footing, Charles Amini and Sese Bau were left to rebuild the innings against the relentless New Zealand pace attack.

With the ball moving around and the Kiwi bowlers maintaining a tight line and length, Papua New Guinea’s batsmen found it difficult to score freely.

Captain Assad Vala and Amini are now tasked with steering Papua New Guinea towards a competitive total as they look to recover from the early setbacks.
