The New England Patriots began the 2024 NFL season with veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett as their starter. However, the team quickly transitioned to rookie and No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye. While Brissett’s performance was considered solid, the offense lacked dynamism, necessitating the change. «Brissett could be looking for a new opportunity in the offseason,» noted NFL analyst Maurice Knox.

Brissett’s potential move in the offseason has generated interest, with the New York Giants identified as a possible suitor. The team, which may part ways with current quarterback Daniel Jones, could view Brissett as a temporary solution. Knox highlighted, «Brissett will be among the top bridge options available in the offseason, along with Andy Dalton, Taylor Heinicke, Marcus Mariota, and Jameis Winston.»

In the games he played for the Patriots, Brissett completed 59.1 percent of his pass attempts, gaining 828 yards, scoring two touchdowns, and recording one interception. During the previous season in 2023, he completed 78.3 percent of his passes for 224 yards and achieved three touchdowns without an interception. Despite these figures, Brissett has not managed to secure a permanent starting position in the league.

Meanwhile, Daniel Jones has faced a challenging period with the New York Giants. The former first-round pick was recently demoted and later released, following public comments by Jones that resembled a retirement speech. The Giants have struggled with consistency at the quarterback position, something they hope to address in the upcoming season.

The Washington Commanders, who are currently at a 7-4 record, have seen success with their backup, Marcus Mariota. Arden Cravalho of Sports Illustrated suggested that Mariota could be a viable option for the Giants, saying, «Former Oregon Duck Marcus Mariota has been tied to New York as a great bridge option as a veteran who could also help in the development of a rookie signal-caller.»

Mariota’s influence as a mentor to Commanders’ starter Jayden Daniels has been noted as significant, and his potential availability could present an attractive option for the Giants as they navigate their quarterback challenges and aim to improve their standing in the NFC.
