Nicolas Cage‘s latest film ‘Longlegs‘ has taken the box office by storm, surpassing initial expectations with a strong debut weekend.

The independent studio Neon, responsible for the release, has seen great success with ‘Longlegs,’ a horror thriller that also features Maika Monroe as FBI Special Agent Lee Harker.

Based on the story of a devil worshiper known as Longlegs, the film presents a gripping narrative of a serial killer who has evaded authorities for over three decades, leaving behind cryptic symbols at crime scenes.

‘Longlegs’ is anticipated to gross between $20 million to $23 million domestically in its opening weekend, outperforming early projections by a significant margin.

Directed by Oz Perkins, the film draws comparisons to the classic horror thriller ‘Silence of the Lambs,’ starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins.

Neon confirmed that the production budget for ‘Longlegs’ was below $10 million, making it a potentially profitable venture for the studio.

Highlighting intense performances by Monroe and the enigmatic voice of Nicolas Cage, the film has garnered much attention through its promotional campaign.

Contrastingly, the romantic comedy ‘Fly Me to the Moon,’ featuring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, has had a lackluster opening weekend, projected to earn $10 million amid a $100 million production budget.

In the larger scope of the box office, ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ is expected to continue its successful run with a projected $44 million in its second weekend.

Other films expected to hold strong positions in the box office rankings include ‘Twister: The Ride Remastered,’ ‘Inside Out 2,’ and ‘A Quiet Place: Day One,’ each offering diverse cinematic experiences to audiences.

Looking ahead, upcoming releases such as ‘Twister: The Ride Remastered,’ starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos, and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, are set to shake up the box office landscape in the coming weeks.
