Nicole Kidman Stars in Upcoming Erotic Thriller ‘Babygirl’
Acclaimed actress Nicole Kidman is set to star in the upcoming erotic thriller «Babygirl,» directed by Halina Reijn. The film, which has recently released its second trailer, features Kidman as a powerful CEO named Romy who becomes involved in a sexually charged affair with a younger intern, Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson. The movie is slated for a December 25th release by A24.
The recently unveiled trailer paints a dramatic picture of forbidden attraction and intense power dynamics. The trailer opens with a scene in an elevator, where Kidman’s character suggests to Dickinson’s intern that they need to discuss their indiscreet relationship. Dickinson’s character poignantly claims, «I think I have power over you, ‘cause I can make one call and you lose everything.» This powerful statement sets the tone for the tension-filled thriller.
Alongside Kidman and Dickinson, the film also stars Antonio Banderas as Romy’s husband and Sophie Wilde in the role of Esme, Romy’s assistant. The narrative delves into themes of power and seduction, further illustrated by scenes that show the pair dancing in a club and engaging intimately in bed.
Nicole Kidman, who is not only starring but also producing the film, has expressed her commitment to bringing authenticity to her role. «I didn’t want to hold anything back,» Kidman stated, explaining the physical and emotional effort put into the portrayal. Director Halina Reijn applauded Kidman’s performance, noting that it transcended professional boundaries, claiming it was a transformation of «mind, body, and soul.»
The role is described by Kidman as more than just daring, while she emphasizes the relatability of the film’s story. The Oscar-winning actress reflects on her career choices, which often include boundary-pushing projects. «I haven’t been the lead of a gritty indie film for a long time,» Kidman remarked, referencing «Babygirl» as a return to form, reminiscent of her work in «Birth» and «Eyes Wide Shut.»
«Babygirl» is expected to intrigue audiences as it explores complex interpersonal relationships set against a corporate backdrop, challenging societal norms about power, vulnerability, and desire. The film’s arrival in theaters this December is anticipated to be a significant event in the indie film landscape, drawing attention for its unabashed exploration of controversial themes.
