Fans of the long-running American sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live (SNL), can expect a brief hiatus this week. NBC has confirmed that there will be no new episode airing on November 23. Instead, the network will rebroadcast the Season 50 premiere episode, which originally aired on September 28.

This particular episode was noteworthy as it marked the debut of Emmy-winning actress Jean Smart as the host, alongside musical guest Jelly Roll, a prominent figure in the country crossover genre. The episode drew considerable attention for its blend of humor and music, characteristic of SNL’s offerings.

The decision to rerun previous episodes is a customary practice for SNL, especially as the cast and crew take a well-deserved break ahead of the holiday season. Similarly, the episode set for November 30 is also a rerun, featuring the October 5 show, headlined by comedian Nate Bargatze and musical guest Coldplay.

In addition to the regular episodes, NBC will also present a special Thanksgiving-themed compilation, aptly titled A Saturday Night Live Thanksgiving. This two-hour special will feature a collection of the most memorable sketches centered around the Thanksgiving holiday, curated from the show’s extensive 50-year history. It is scheduled to air on November 27 at 9/8c and will be available on the streaming service Peacock the following day.

Last week, the November 16 episode saw English pop star Charli XCX take on dual roles as both host and musical guest. Known for her chart-topping tracks «360» and «Sympathy Is a Knife,» both off her 2024 album Brat, Charli XCX delivered standout performances. The episode also revisited popular sketches such as a sequel to Ariana Grande’s «Bridesmaid Speech» and a comedic take on celebrity auditions for the musical adaptation of Wicked.

The next original episode of SNL is anticipated to air on December 7. This upcoming episode will feature Paul Mescal, known for his role in the film Gladiator II, as the host, while the musical guest has yet to be announced.
