Nine newly appointed Police Security Officers (PSOs) have completed their training at the South Australia Police (SAPOL) Academy and will now take on the responsibility of safeguarding State Government buildings, assets, and individuals.

The diverse group of graduates, ranging from 19 to 40 years old, bring with them varied employment backgrounds, including roles at Australia Post, a Northern Territory police officer, and experiences in sales, retail, and education.

Justin, a former aspiring professional tennis player, transitioned into a fulfilling career serving the South Australian community. His diverse background in sales, coaching, travel, and volunteering as a youth leader has equipped him with skills that he believes were crucial during his time at the academy.

Similarly, Shay, who has experience as a youth worker and swimming and pilates instructor, credited her roles for developing communication skills and an understanding of the importance of maintaining mental and physical health, essential for the role of a Police Security Officer.

Both Justin and Shay come from diverse backgrounds, with Justin having experiences in sport and Shay being influenced by her mother’s Filipino heritage and her father’s Australian roots.

Today’s PSO graduates will join operational areas within the Police Security Services Branch (PSSB), including the Protective Security Section, tasked with ensuring the safety of government facilities and employees.

SAPOL continues to recruit Police Security Officers, inviting individuals committed to enhancing the state’s safety and security to join the team.
