Nishad Kumar Secures Silver Medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics
Nishad Kumar of Team India achieved a remarkable feat by winning a silver medal in the Men’s High Jump T47 Final during the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games, held at Stade de France on September 1, 2024. His impressive jump of 2.04 meters marked a season’s best and added to his previous success at the Tokyo Paralympics.
In the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago, Kumar also secured a silver medal, having achieved a jump of 2.06 meters. The T47 category accommodates athletes with below elbow or wrist amputations or impairments, highlighting the competitive spirit and determination of the participants.
Nishad Kumar’s silver medal contributed to India’s growing medal tally at the Paris Paralympics, bringing the total to seven medals. This accomplishment underscores the progress and dedication of Indian athletes in the realm of para-athletics.
Earlier on the same day, another Indian athlete, Preethi Pal, made headlines by becoming the first Indian woman track and field athlete to win two medals at a single Paralympic Games. She secured a bronze medal in the 200m T35 category, achieving a personal best of 30.01 seconds. Preethi’s achievement also places her among the few Indian women to win multiple medals in one Paralympics.
