Norfolk to Sizzle with High Temperatures This Week
Norfolk is gearing up for a major heatwave this week, with temperatures soaring as high as 33°C in some areas. If you’re looking for that Mediterranean vibe, you won’t have to travel far!
The Met Office has issued a weather forecast predicting that the mercury could reach the low 30s across various parts of the county this Monday.
Starting at 9 a.m. tomorrow and lasting until 9 a.m. Wednesday, the Health Security Agency has put a heat alert in place for the region to warn residents of the upcoming sweltering conditions.
In the afternoon, beaches in west Norfolk, like Hunstanton, Downham Market, and King’s Lynn, are set to experience a scorcher with temperatures at a blistering 33°C. That’s a whole four degrees warmer than what’s expected in Barcelona!
If you’re heading to the north Norfolk coast, you can still enjoy the sunshine with 31°C forecasted in Wells-next-the-Sea, while Cromer and Sheringham will see slightly cooler temperatures at 29°C.
In the city of Norwich, you can expect temperatures to reach around 30°C, while places like Diss and Attleborough are forecasted to be a tad warmer at 31°C, and Thetford and Swaffham will hit 32°C.
Those planning a day at the beach must remember that the sea breeze will keep areas along the east coast noticeably cooler, with Great Yarmouth and Winterton-on-Sea settling in the mid-20s.
This rise in temperature isn’t just a local phenomenon. The hotter weather is being influenced by Tropical Storm Debby in North America, which is sending ripples through the jet stream, resulting in a heatwave for parts of the UK, including Norfolk.
Met Office chief meteorologist, Dan Suri, shared that the storm is helping to strengthen the jet stream, allowing hot air to move into the UK later this weekend and early next week.
