Northern New Jersey Braces for Season’s First Snowfall
Northern regions of New Jersey are preparing for the first significant winter weather event of the season, as forecasts predict snowfall beginning Thursday evening and continuing into Friday morning. The National Weather Service has issued advisories, effective from 7 p.m. on Thursday through 10 a.m. on Friday, for the impending weather.
According to meteorologists, areas with higher elevations, such as Passaic and Sussex counties, could see accumulations ranging from 4 to 6 inches of snow. Meanwhile, Morris and Warren counties might experience snowfall levels of 1 to 4 inches. The snowfall is anticipated to mark the first measurable event of the winter for the Garden State.
In response to the weather forecasts, several school districts have announced changes to their schedules for Friday, November 22, 2024. Butler and Mount Olive schools will have a delayed opening of two hours. Additionally, schools in Ringwood, Wanaque, and West Milford are set to open 90 minutes later than usual.
Local authorities are urging residents to exercise caution, particularly those traveling in affected areas. Roads may become slippery and drivers are advised to allow extra travel time.
The predicted snowfall is largely expected to affect areas west and north of the main population centers of New Jersey, with significant accumulations likely in regions situated at higher altitudes.
