Novak Djokovic Advances in US Open 2024 with Dominant Victory
Novak Djokovic began his quest for a record 25th Grand Slam title at the 2024 US Open, successfully defeating qualifier Radu Albot of Moldova with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 on Monday night.
The second-seeded Djokovic, who wore a gray sleeve over his surgically repaired right knee, made his return to hard courts, competing for the first time since winning Olympic gold three weeks ago in Paris.
With this victory, Djokovic improved his record to 18-0 in first-round matches at Flushing Meadows and now holds an overall record of 89 wins and 13 losses at this prestigious hard-court tournament, which he has won four times.
Djokovic’s win also tied him with Roger Federer for the most matches won at the US Open, an achievement that adds to his remarkable career statistics.
In his match against Albot, Djokovic demonstrated his dominance, controlling the game despite facing challenges, including ten double faults and 40 unforced errors. Nevertheless, he maintained control and closed the match in two hours and seven minutes.
Next, Djokovic will face fellow Serbian player Miomir Kecmanović, who advanced by defeating his German opponent in a five-set thriller.
At the age of 37, Djokovic continues to showcase his exceptional talent, improving to 30-7 in the current season. He is also on the verge of achieving his 100th career title this fortnight.
