Former President Olusegun Obasanjo recently shared a remarkable story about his birth, revealing that his mother, Bernice Obasanjo, carried him for 12 months due to the influence of witches and wizards. This unexpected revelation came during a drama event titled «Aremu Omo Asabi,» which was held to commemorate 66 years since his mother’s passing.

The event took place at the main auditorium of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Obasanjo reflected on the challenges his mother faced before he was born, attributing the extended pregnancy to supernatural forces. He expressed deep gratitude for God’s intervention that allowed his birth.

Obasanjo shared that he was told he was in his mother’s womb for an unusual duration and mentioned that she had nine children, but only he and his sister survived. The former president also highlighted his own educational journey, noting that he was the only child who received an education because his father believed that educating female children was unnecessary.

During the event, Obasanjo expressed his sadness that his mother did not live to witness his achievements or enjoy the fruits of her labor. He also promised to support the local drama troupe in their bid to set a Guinness World Record for the longest open drama performance.

Speakers at the event, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who was represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, praised Bernice Obasanjo as a foundational figure in her children’s lives. They emphasized the critical role mothers play in shaping society and the sacrifices they continually make.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Secretary to the State Government Salu Hundeyin, also commended Obasanjo for remembering his mother 66 years after her passing, reinforcing the message of respect and recognition for mothers.
