Ogun State Government Plans Commemoration Events for Democracy Day Celebrations
The Ogun State Government has unveiled a series of activities to observe this year’s Democracy Day on the 12th of June, as announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi.
The commemorative events are set to commence with a special memorial prayer at the ancestral home of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola in Ọja Agbo, Gbágùrá, Abeokuta at 8:00 am.
Following the prayer, a commemorative lecture themed ‘June 12 Defining Moment in The Democratic Development in Nigeria’ will be delivered by Public Affairs Analyst, Mr. Richard Akinnola, starting at 10:00 am at the Hubert Ogunde Hall, June 12 Cultural Centre Kuto, Abeokuta.
Guests are requested to be seated by 9:30 am to participate in the enlightening discourse.
Abiola, a renowned billionaire and politician, is famously known for his victory in the June 12, 1993, presidential election, which was controversially annulled by the military government led by Gen Ibrahim Babangida.
Tragically, Abiola passed away on July 7, 1998, while striving to reclaim his nullified mandate, leaving a lasting impact on Nigeria’s political landscape.
