Oklahoma State and Texas Tech Face Off in Football Rivalry
This Saturday marks the renewal of a longstanding football rivalry between the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The two teams, who will face each other for the 51st time, have a history dating back to 1935. The Cowboys currently lead the all-time series with a narrow edge of 24-23-3, having won 12 of the last 14 meetings.
Oklahoma State has a strong record against Texas Tech when playing at home in Stillwater, achieving 14 wins out of 22 encounters, including victories in nine of their last ten home games. Head Coach Mike Gundy holds a favorable record of 14-4 against the Red Raiders. In contrast, Texas Tech’s head coach, Joey McGuire, has yet to secure a win against the Cowboys, with a record of 0-1.
The previous matchup in 2022 saw Oklahoma State triumph with a 41-31 victory, thanks in part to two rushing touchdowns and a passing score by then-quarterback Spencer Sanders. This year, both teams are entering the game after a bye week, providing them ample time to prepare.
The Cowboys are experiencing a challenging season with a record of 3-7 overall and 0-7 in the Big 12 Conference. In contrast, Texas Tech stands at 6-4 overall with a 4-3 record in conference play. The Red Raiders, however, suffered a recent setback with a 41-27 loss to Colorado.
Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, with the game being broadcast on ESPN+ and live commentary provided on the Cowboy Radio Network. James Westling and Jay Sonnhalter will serve as commentators for the event.
The betting odds currently favor Texas Tech by 4.5 points, with a total over/under set at 65.5. Oklahoma State faces the challenge of improving their defensive performance, as the team is allowing an average of 240.8 rushing yards per game, the highest in their conference. They will need to devise a plan to stop Texas Tech’s standout running back, Tahj Brooks, to increase their chances of victory.
