Oliver Skipp Set for Leicester Move
Oliver Skipp is on the verge of a new adventure as he undergoes a medical at Leicester City on Sunday. The transfer, worth more than £20 million, would mark the end of his 16-year journey with Tottenham Hotspur.
The 23-year-old midfielder joined Spurs’ academy when he was just six. However, his time in the first team has been limited, making only 40 league starts and 37 substitute appearances throughout his career. Skipp had a productive loan spell at Norwich during the 2020-21 season, contributing significantly to the team.
Despite some challenges, Leicester manager Steve Cooper is keen on bolstering his squad as they prepare for the new Premier League season. Currently, Leicester has struggled to bring in new players following their promotion, but Skipp is expected to become their sixth signing of the summer.
Interestingly, Tottenham and Leicester are set to face off in their season opener on Monday. While Harry Winks is preparing to play against his former club, Skipp’s transfer won’t be finalized in time for him to join the match.
Last season, Skipp made 24 appearances for Spurs but often found himself coming off the bench under manager Ange Postecoglou. His time at Tottenham has been fruitful, with a total of 106 appearances since his first-team breakthrough in 2018.
Leicester, on their end, is looking to replace lost talent in the midfield after losing other key players in the summer. Skipp’s move could re-establish connections with fellow academy graduate in Leicester’s midfield.
