Olympic Champion Steve Hooker Raises $21,300 for Murrup Charity on Tipping Point Australia
Olympic champion Steve Hooker demonstrated his winning prowess once again by raising an impressive $21,300 for the Community Spirit Foundation, now known as Murrup, during a charity round on the popular TV game show Tipping Point Australia.
Steve, renowned for his gold medal win at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, has a deep connection with the charity that supports indigenous children, youth, and families in remote communities.
Expressing his commitment to the cause, Steve shared how his prior fundraising efforts fell just short of their target last year when he attempted to break a national Master’s record in the 4×400 metres with friends, raising $40,000.
His competitive spirit shone bright on the Tipping Point Australia episode as he outperformed fellow Olympians Anna Meares and Kerri Pottharst in the cash-building rounds, setting a new show record in the Quick Fire round by correctly answering seven questions in just 30 seconds.
Reaching the final Jackpot round with $9,600, Steve amassed a total of $21,300 before being tempted with a shot at the $40,000 jackpot by host Todd Sampson.
Despite the extra counters not falling in his favor, Steve was relieved to learn that he would be taking home the full $21,300 for the charity.
Following his Tipping Point victory, the retired athlete is gearing up to join Nine‘s coverage team for the Paris Olympic Games, where he will be in a different role, focusing on enjoying the competition without the pressure of being a competitor himself.
Steve expressed his excitement about returning to the Stade de France, a venue he competed in during his career, and shared his anticipation for the unique purple track at the Paris Games, where he’ll witness the thrill of the athletic performances unfold.
As an athletics expert, Steve is eager to be part of the action in Paris, soaking in the drama and energy of the prestigious event from the best seat in the house.
