Orioles Trade for Left-Handed Starter Trevor Rogers from Marlins
BALTIMORE — The Orioles are making moves again as they look to bolster their pitching rotation, and this time they’re bringing in a left-handed starter they’ve been missing.
According to multiple sources, Baltimore is set to acquire southpaw Trevor Rogers from the Miami Marlins. In exchange, the Marlins will receive infield prospect Connor Norby and outfielder Kyle Stowers. While neither team has officially confirmed the deal yet, it looks like a solid trade for both sides.
This season, Rogers has pitched 21 games posting a 4.53 ERA, with 85 strikeouts under his belt across 105 1/3 innings. The 26-year-old lefty has a career ERA of 4.23 over 80 starts throughout five seasons. However, it’s worth noting that injuries have limited him this year, as he only made four appearances due to a left biceps strain and a right lat strain. This comes after his impressive 2021 season, where he finished second in the NL Rookie of the Year voting and was an All-Star.
The timing of this move is particularly interesting for the Orioles, especially after their recent trade with the Rays. Their rotation faced significant challenges in June when three of their starters—Kyle Bradish, John Means, and Tyler Wells—had to undergo season-ending UCL surgeries.
Like Zach Eflin, who is under contract through the end of the 2025 season, Rogers also comes with a sense of team control, as he won’t hit free agency until after the 2026 season.
As for the Orioles’ current rotation, it’s shaping up as follows: Corbin Burnes, Grayson Rodriguez, Zach Eflin, Trevor Rogers, and Dean Kremer.
Connor Norby and Kyle Stowers, the players heading to Miami, had been a bit stuck in the Orioles’ deep farm system, getting limited chances in the big leagues this season. Norby managed only 6 hits in 32 at-bats with two homers during his brief stint in the majors, while Stowers has posted a .229 batting average with four homers in 67 games over the last three years.
