Orlando Pirates have concluded their season on a high note under the management of head coach Jose Riveiro, securing two major domestic trophies following their recent Nedbank Cup victory.

The triumph against Mamelodi Sundowns marked a successful defense of their Nedbank Cup title, adding to their prior season’s win over Sekhukhune.

The Buccaneers’ overall performance has been impressive, retaining all trophies claimed last season, including a thrilling victory over Sundowns in the MTN8 final via a penalty shoot-out.

Riveiro, the Spanish tactician, has significantly enhanced his reputation, attracting interest from overseas clubs, albeit speculation that seems to be put to rest as Orlando Pirates plan to extend his contract.

An anonymous source revealed, «The coach has done well, and the management is pleased with the progress he has made. Those (reports on overseas interest) were just rumours. The parties have been happy with the working relationship and there isn’t any talk of potential changes at the moment.

In addition to their cup successes, Orlando Pirates finished as runners-up in the DStv Premiership for the second consecutive season, securing their spot in the forthcoming CAF Champions League.

After an unsuccessful attempt to advance past the group stages in the previous campaign, Riveiro aims to rectify their performance following a defeat to Jwanang Galaxy this season, providing a valuable learning experience for the team’s next continental endeavor.
