Former Home and Away actor Orpheus Pledger has been sentenced to seven months in jail after being found guilty of violently attacking a woman. A magistrate emphasized that society is tired of men committing such acts against women.

Pledger, 31, appeared in a Melbourne court wearing a worn black jumper and was taken into custody following the hearing. His lawyers plan to apply for bail later today.

The assaults occurred on March 25 of this year, with Pledger’s victim suffering various injuries including cuts and bruises to her head. He also kicked her in the face three weeks prior during another incident.

During the court proceedings, Pledger’s lawyer mentioned that the victim wrote a character reference supporting him, indicating he had been making progress in overcoming his drug and mental health issues. However, Magistrate Justin Foster pointed out the serious nature of the crimes and Pledger’s lack of understanding of the impact of his actions.

Magistrate Foster stated, “Society is completely fed up with male violence against women,” and condemned Pledger’s actions, highlighting that drugs cannot excuse violent behavior.

In a previously reported incident, Pledger had a period where he was missing from police custody after he breached bail by leaving a hospital. He was later found and arrested again.

At the sentencing, it was noted that despite Pledger’s claims of his drug issues starting after losing a role on a US television show, a psychological report contradicted this, stating his drug problems began much earlier.

Pledger is now facing the consequences of his actions, which have drawn significant media attention.
