Pakistani Terrorists Launch Attack on Indian Army Convoy in Jammu and Kashmir
A recent attack on Indian Army vehicles in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir has been identified as the work of Pakistani terrorists, who utilized sophisticated weaponry to target the convoy and cause significant damage, as per official sources.
Reports suggest that the assailants, armed with M4 Carbine rifles and explosives, carefully scouted the area, possibly with the assistance of local collaborators, indicating a premeditated assault strategy.
Notably, the geography of Badnota village, where the ambush occurred, posed challenges due to limited road access and slow vehicle movement, conditions exploited by the attackers to launch the assault.
According to sources, the terrorists, estimated to be a group of 2-3 individuals along with 1-2 local guides, strategically positioned themselves on hills overlooking the route taken by the army convoy. The method of attack involved grenade explosions followed by gunfire, with drivers being the initial targets.
Initial investigations revealed that the militants had conducted prior reconnaissance in the area with the aid of a local guide, who also provided them with sustenance and shelter. Following the attack, this individual facilitated the terrorists in evading capture and reaching their hideout.
Subsequent to the incident, a large-scale search operation was launched in the hilly terrains of Kathua to apprehend the perpetrators, who were believed to have retreated into nearby forested areas. However, factors such as difficult terrain, foggy conditions, and thick vegetation have impeded progress in the search operation.
This attack follows another act of terrorism in Jammu division’s Rajouri district, specifically in Manjakote area, where a soldier was injured after an Army camp was targeted on Sunday morning. The incidents underscore the persistent security threats faced in the Union Territory.
