Paris 2024 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony: What to Expect
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are almost wrapping up with the exciting closing ceremony just around the corner. After two weeks of thrilling sports, over 10,000 athletes from 206 nations have made their mark across 32 different sports.
For Australia, it’s been an incredible journey with our athletes breaking records and bringing home the largest number of gold medals we’ve ever seen. It’s a proud moment for the green and gold!
The closing ceremony is set to kick off at 8pm local time on Sunday, August 11, in Paris. For those wanting to catch it live in Australia, that means an early start on Monday, August 12.
If you’re in Australia, you can watch the ceremony for free on Channel 9 or 9Gem. For those who enjoy a communal atmosphere, head over to Melbourne’s Federation Square, one of the official live sites. You can also choose to stream it live or catch it on-demand via 9Now and Stan Sport.
In contrast to the opening ceremony, which took place on the scenic River Seine, the closing ceremony will take place on solid ground at the Stade de France. As part of the customary festivities, we can look forward to the athletes’ parade, a medal presentation, and heartfelt thanks to the volunteers who made it all possible.
Australia will be represented by gold medalists Kaylee McKeown and Matt Wearn, who will proudly carry the flag at the ceremony. The Olympic flame will be extinguished, and the Olympic flag will be lowered, followed by its handover to the next host city for the 2028 Summer Games, Los Angeles.
Entertainment during the ceremony promises to be exciting, with performances by big names like Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as per entertainment sources. There are rumors that Tom Cruise will make an appearance as well, having filmed stunts in both Paris and LA.
So what’s in store entertainment-wise? Organizers are hinting at a spectacular show titled ‘Records’, featuring over 100 performers, including acrobats, dancers, and circus artists. They have promised a visually stunning experience that will take spectators on a journey through time.
Plus, we should keep an eye out for some ‘world-renowned singers’ performing, although names haven’t been officially released yet. Speculation is buzzing with names like Beyoncé and Ariana Grande being thrown around, given their connections to the Games.
As the Olympic lights dim, the official handover to Los Angeles will take place, marking the end of this Olympiad. Meanwhile, don’t forget that the Paralympics will begin in just a few weeks, running from August 29 to September 9.
With 4,400 athletes competing and plenty of sporting action on the horizon, the excitement in Paris is far from over!
