Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Kick Off with Exciting Team Sports
On the opening day of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, team sports captured the spotlight with competitions in Goalball, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby, and Sitting Volleyball.
In the Wheelchair Basketball event, Group A saw the British men’s team triumph over Germany with a score of 76-55, while the United States had a challenging match against Spain, emerging victorious with a 66-56 win. The Netherlands also showed strength, defeating Australia 66-55.
The British teams continued their strong performance as the women’s team secured a convincing 69-34 victory against Spain in Group A. Meanwhile, in another Pool A game, China edged past Canada with a close 70-65 win.
Defending champions Turkey faced difficulties in their opening match, drawing 3-3 against Brazil. In the same group, the French women’s team struggled, suffering a heavy defeat with a score of 10-0 against Canada. In another match, Japan outperformed Korea with a 3-1 victory.
The French men’s team also found their first game challenging, losing 8-5 to Brazil despite a commendable first-half performance where they trailed closely at 5-4. In Group B, China narrowly defeated Japan 7-6, while Ukraine showcased dominance with a 6-3 win over Egypt.
The mixed wheelchair rugby tournament commenced with the U.S. team narrowly beating Canada 51-48, highlighted by an impressive 21 tries from Chuck Aoki. Japan also claimed victory against Germany with a 55-44 score. In Group B, Great Britain edged out Australia 58-55 with a strong individual performance from Ryley Batt, while France secured a close win over Denmark, finishing 53-51.
Sitting Volleyball commenced at the Arena Paris Nord with the French women’s team being unable to overcome Kazakhstan, losing 3-0. Earlier, Bosnia-Herzegovina triumphed over Egypt with a 3-1 victory. In the women’s division, Brazil displayed their strength by defeating Rwanda 3-0, and Canada followed suit with a 3-0 win against Slovenia later in the day.
