The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party in Gauteng has officially distanced itself from a recent incident where an unauthorized individual attempted to sign the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) code of conduct at an event held in Kempton Park.

According to the party’s Gauteng elections coordinator, Mzukisi Ronyuza, the initial agreement was that the official Gauteng convener, Theophilus Nkani, would be the signatory of the pledge on behalf of the party.

However, during the event, a woman, who had been present throughout the ceremony, unexpectedly made her way to the stage with the intention of signing the document, contrary to the agreed procedure. The incident was captured on video, causing confusion and raising concerns within the party.

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party emphasized that the woman’s actions were not endorsed or authorized by the party leadership, and she was not a designated representative to sign any official documents on behalf of the organization.

This incident underscores the importance of adherence to protocol and the designated processes within political organizations, especially during critical moments such as the signing of electoral pledges and agreements with electoral bodies like the IEC.

The party’s Gauteng coordinator, Mzukisi Ronyuza, reiterated the commitment of the MK Party to upholding transparency, accountability, and proper procedures in all their engagements, particularly as the country prepares for upcoming elections.
