Passengers Subdue Disruptive Man Attempting to Open Plane Door Mid-Flight
On a flight from Milwaukee to Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Airport, passengers successfully restrained a Canadian man who attempted to open a cabin door mid-air. The incident, which took place on an American Airlines flight, is currently under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), though no charges have yet been filed.
The disruptive passenger, who has not been named, reportedly made aggressive comments to a flight attendant before demanding to leave the plane. According to an incident report cited by sources, he declared himself the «Captain» and attempted to reach the airplane door.
Doug McCright, a passenger on the flight, observed the altercation as it unfolded near his seat. «I could tell that the conversation was not going very well,» McCright recounted. He intervened when the flight attendant motioned for assistance, asking the man to return to his seat. The passenger, however, insisted on getting off the flight, leading to a physical altercation.
Passengers Doug McCright, Charlie Boris, and another unidentified individual quickly sprang into action, using tape from the airplane’s safety kit to secure the man’s hands and feet. They managed to hold him until the aircraft safely landed at DFW Airport.
Upon landing, airport police and FBI agents were already on standby to board the plane. «It was kind of a fight or flight situation,» Boris explained, emphasizing the collective effort of passengers to contain the situation. The man was subsequently removed from the plane in a wheelchair and taken for a mental health evaluation.
The incident resulted in the flight attendant sustaining injuries to her wrist and neck. She received medical treatment and has since been discharged from the hospital. The spokesperson for DFW Airport confirmed that the disruptive passenger was taken into custody, adding that the investigation remains ongoing.
