Pastor Mboro Storms Katlehong School in Custody Dispute
Paseka “Mboro” Motsoeneng, a well-known pastor, caused a scene at Matshidiso Primary School in Katlehong on Monday. Reports confirm he forcibly entered the school, threatening teachers in a heated dispute over his grandchildren’s custody.
The children, currently in the custody of their maternal grandmother after their mother passed away in April, are enrolled in grade R and grade 2. Tensions had been high between the two families, leading to this alarming conflict.
On that day, the children’s father was trying to pick them up from school. The principal had already met with him earlier, but the situation escalated when the grandparents clashed over who had the right to take the children home. Mboro reportedly arrived with bodyguards and weapons, including two pangas and an assault rifle.
Teachers at the school tried to prevent the father from taking the children without the grandmother’s consent, fearing for their safety. In a shocking video that has circulated widely on social media, Mboro is seen swinging a panga and threatening the staff to let his son leave with the kids.
The Gauteng education department condemned Mboro’s actions, stating that such violence has no place in schools. Officials described the situation as highly disturbing, especially with young children witnessing it.
In a conversation with the police, Mboro defended his actions, claiming he was trying to protect his son, who he alleged was being assaulted by the teachers. He mentioned that while he grabbed the panga, his son had a firearm, though Mboro insisted he wouldn’t let his son use it.
Gauteng education MEC Matome Chiloane expressed concerns about how this type of behaviour can traumatize students and teachers. He reassured that the department would take necessary steps to ensure safety within schools.
Currently, a police investigation is underway, and the child protection unit is involved in mediating the situation.
