New England Patriots Vs Washington Commanders

This Sunday, the New England Patriots will face the Washington Commanders in their preseason finale. Head Coach Jerod Mayo has announced that all healthy players will participate in the game, emphasizing the need for the first unit to gain more experience together.

Quarterback Jacoby Brissett has struggled in previous preseason games, notably throwing an interception that led to points for the opposing team. With the offensive line remains a significant concern, injuries have forced shifts in positions, particularly at left tackle.

Vederian Lowe, who was expected to contribute, is sidelined with a back injury, prompting adjustments across the line. Chuks Okorafor, attempting to transition from right to left tackle, and rookie Caeden Wallace have faced challenges in this adjustment. This situation has raised questions about the Patriots’ draft strategy regarding offensive linemen.

The offensive line will see Mike Onwenu back at right tackle and Layden Robinson at right guard. David Andrews is likely to start at center but may cede playing time to Nick Leverett due to minor injuries. The second unit will see Caeden Wallace playing at both tackle positions.

In the quarterback position, there is clarity in the competition, with Brissett being the starter and rookie Drake Maye stepping in as the backup. Brissett is expected to play two series before being lifted, while Maye aims to showcase his capabilities against the Commanders’ defense.

The wide receiver battle has intensified, with Ja’lynn Polk emerging as the top receiver and Pop Douglas closely following. Tyquan Thornton is also in contention, underlining the competitive nature of the roster as they head into the final preseason game.

On the defensive line, the team faces a setback with Christian Barmore expected to start the season on IR due to blood clots. This has led to the emergence of Jeremiah Pharms as a potential starter in Barmore’s absence, while other defensive linemen like Detrich Wise and Armon Watts are under scrutiny for their performance.

In the secondary, several battles for position are ongoing. Isaiah Bolden and Shaun Wade are competing for the same slot, while UDFA Dell Pettus appears to have the upper hand against veteran Josh Bledsoe. The safety positions are also competitive, with Jaylinn Hawkins expected to start at free safety.

Lastly, the kicker position remains tight as Joey Slye and Chad Ryland vie for the job. Ryland must perform well in the upcoming game to solidify his position on the team.
