Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro Addresses DNC, Emphasizes Freedom
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro addressed attendees at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Wednesday in Chicago, emphasizing the theme of freedom as a core value of the Democratic Party.
Shapiro reflected on historical events, stating that 250 years ago, patriots in Philadelphia declared their independence from tyranny and paved the way for self-determination. He contrasted the Democratic vision of freedom with that of former President Donald Trump, whom he criticized for lacking ethical constraints.
According to Shapiro, Trump presents a distorted version of freedom. He argued that true freedom does not involve restricting children’s access to literature or dictating women’s rights over their bodies. Shapiro expressed concern that Trump promotes a concept of freedom that allows him to decide electoral outcomes.
The DNC’s third day focused on the theme «A Fight for Our Freedoms,» showcasing Vice President Kamala Harris as a defender of American liberties. Shapiro’s remarks align with the party’s strategy to portray Trump as a threat to individual rights.
In addition, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz delivered the keynote address while officially accepting the Democratic vice presidential nomination. Shapiro was initially considered a strong candidate for Harris’s running mate but has since expressed support for Walz.
During the DNC, Harris and Walz engaged with supporters at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia. Walz praised Shapiro, highlighting his capabilities as governor. This demonstrates the connectedness of Democratic leaders as they rally support for their shared goals.
