Billionaire tech mogul Peter Thiel recently opened up about his thoughts on moving away from California during an appearance on Joe Rogan‘s podcast.

After relocating from San Francisco to Los Angeles, Thiel is now considering where to go next. He mentioned that he could potentially move to Florida or even leave the country entirely. New Zealand and Costa Rica were countries he named as possibilities.

Thiel also shared some interesting insights about California’s economy amidst the usual political debates. He seemed surprised that the state has been thriving despite the criticisms about poor governance and high taxes. He noted that California boasts a population of 40 million and a GDP around $4 trillion, similar to countries like Germany and Japan.

In a rather striking analogy, he compared California’s cultural atmosphere, which he refers to as ‘wokeism,’ to the strict religious beliefs present in Saudi Arabia, especially Wahhabism. He suggested that just like the Saudi economy can support its own absurdities due to its oil wealth, California manages to sustain a level of functionality despite its challenges.

While Thiel is weighing his options, Nashville emerged as a standout choice during his chat with Rogan. Both men expressed their fondness for the city, considering it a great place to live away from the high taxes of California and other states.

Thiel revealed that he had bought a property in Miami back in 2020, showing his interest in the low-tax appeal of places like Florida. Rogan chimed in, indicating that he could easily see himself living in Nashville as well.
