Phillip Barantini to Direct Enola Holmes 3 for Netflix
The highly anticipated third installment in Netflix’s Enola Holmes series is reportedly gaining momentum with filmmaker Phillip Barantini set to take the director’s chair. Sources close to Deadline have indicated that while contracts are not yet finalized, the involvement of Barantini, known for his critically acclaimed film Boiling Point, is expected to bring a new dimension to the franchise. Millie Bobby Brown is slated to reprise her role as Enola, with filming scheduled to commence in 2025.
Enola Holmes 3 will continue to chronicle the adventures of the titular teenage detective, this time expected to take a darker and more mature direction. The classic story of Enola Holmes, rooted in the book series by Nancy Springer, draws parallels with the tonal shift seen in the Harry Potter franchise’s third film, Prisoner of Azkaban. Barantini’s pitch reportedly appealed to producers by suggesting a similar evolution in storytelling.
The acclaimed director, who has substantial ties with Netflix following his work on the series Adolescence, brings significant experience to the project. His past work has been recognized with multiple BIFA and BAFTA nominations, cementing his reputation for intense and gripping narratives. This experience is anticipated to influence the narrative path of Enola Holmes 3, adding depth and intrigue.
Legendary Entertainment is set to produce the film alongside PCMA Productions, the banner belonging to Millie Bobby Brown, who will also be involved as a producer. Mary Parent, Ali Mendes, and Alex Garcia are confirmed as producers, while Jake Bongiovi and Isobel Richards will serve as executive producers under the PCMA Productions umbrella.
Millie Bobby Brown’s return comes amidst her successful run with Netflix, following her performance in Stranger Things and her appearance in upcoming projects such as The Electric State. The announcement of Enola Holmes 3 has already stirred excitement among fans who have followed the franchise since its debut during the global pandemic, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between the actress and the streaming giant.
