Pirates of the Caribbean Actor Tamayo Perry Dies in Tragic Shark Attack
The entertainment world is in mourning following the tragic death of actor and professional surfer Tamayo Perry, known for his roles in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ ‘Blue Crush,’ and ‘Hawaii Five-0.’ Perry met with a fatal shark attack while surfing at Malaekahana Beach on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
Honolulu emergency services received a distress call at 1 pm, reporting a shark attack incident involving Perry. Responding quickly, they used a jet ski to retrieve Perry’s body from the ocean. Kurt Lager, acting chief of Honolulu Ocean Safety, described Perry as a beloved figure in the surfing community, both locally and internationally.
In his role as a buccaneer in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,’ alongside Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz, Perry showcased his talent both on-screen and in the water. Additionally, he contributed as a stunt performer in the film adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s novel, ‘The Big Bounce,’ starring Owen Wilson.
Mayor Rick Blangiardi expressed his condolences, labelling Perry’s passing as a «tragic loss.» Blangiardi highlighted Perry’s roots in Hawaii and his impact as a waterman and member of the ocean safety team. He urged the public and the media to respect the privacy of Perry’s family during this difficult time.
While shark attacks garner significant media attention, statistics from the Florida Museum of Natural History reveal that there were 69 unprovoked shark attacks worldwide last year, with 10 resulting in fatalities. Florida led in the number of unprovoked attacks, recording 16 incidents, none of which were fatal.
