Pochettino to Coach USMNT
Big news in soccer! Mauricio Pochettino, the well-known Argentine coach, is set to take the helm of the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT). Reports say he has reached an agreement to officially become the next head coach.
Pochettino’s hiring comes on the heels of the USMNT’s disappointing performance at the Copa America, where they faced a tough exit in the group stage this past summer. The team is looking to bounce back and rebuild under Pochettino’s guidance.
The seasoned coach is known for leading major clubs like Chelsea, Tottenham, and Paris Saint-Germain. After a stint at Chelsea that ended after the 2023-24 season, Pochettino is now ready for this new challenge with the USMNT.
Before coaching in the Premier League, Pochettino started his managerial career at Espanyol, where he once played. He later took Southampton from a struggling position to an impressive finish and moved up to bigger challenges at Tottenham, leading them to their first-ever Champions League final in 2019.
Interestingly, Pochettino has worked with U.S. Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker before during his time at Southampton. This will be his first international coaching role, which brings a lot of excitement to fans.
Pochettino is expected to take the lead just in time for an upcoming friendly match against Canada on September 7. His main focus will be preparing the squad for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
