The Police Service Commission (PSC) has officially announced the approval and unveiling of a selection of 10,000 qualified individuals for recruitment into both the constable and specialist cadres of the Nigeria Police Force. To guarantee fairness and impartiality throughout the recruitment process, the commission closely collaborated with various stakeholders, including the Nigeria Police Force, the National Assembly, and the Federal Character Commission.

The spokesperson for the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, shared this information through a statement on Tuesday, emphasizing that the commission took strategic steps to ensure equitable distribution of successful candidates across all 774 local government areas in the country.

The commission had previously set up a Recruitment Board composed of representatives from the PSC, NPF, Ministry of Police Affairs, Federal Character Commission, Police Colleges, and the Police Trust Fund. The board was responsible for overseeing the entire recruitment process and reporting back to the PSC.

Interested Nigerian youths were invited to apply online for consideration for subsequent stages of the recruitment, following advertisements in various national media outlets. The application window spanned six weeks, adhering to the Federal Character requirements and timelines.

Upon the closure of applications, a total of 609,886 applications were received, with 416,323 meeting the advertised prerequisites and proceeding to the physical and document screening stage. This screening was conducted across the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory within a specific timeframe.

From the initial pool, 171,956 successful applicants were shortlisted for the Computer Based Tests, conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), known for its expertise in such assessments.

After the CBT phase, 15,447 General Duty applicants and 55,645 Specialists proceeded to medical screenings after excelling in their respective tests. The meticulous process aimed to ensure the comprehensive capability and geographical representation within the selected candidates.

Dr. Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the commission and former Inspector General of Police, highlighted the dedication to enhancing the Nigeria Police Force’s capacity and efficacy through this rigorous recruitment. Arase emphasized the importance of integrity, transparency, and excellence as foundational pillars for the recruits.

The final selection process reflected a deliberate effort to create a more competent, reliable, and truly representative Police Force. The Chairman noted that the inclusive selection criteria aligned with the National Assembly’s directive to promote diversity within the force, with an aim of selecting 10 candidates from each of the 774 local government areas.

For data protection purposes, the list of successful candidates will be shared in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023 to safeguard the personal information of the recruits and their families.

Applicants are encouraged to check their application status through the dedicated Police Service Commission webpage and can reach out to the recruitment help desk for any inquiries or concerns.
