This weekend, the town of Ponoka is hosting an exciting Community-Wide Garage Sale, encouraging residents and visitors alike to embark on a treasure hunt in search of unique and special items.

According to Andrew Jones, the Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities, the event offers an excellent opportunity for individuals to explore a variety of garage sales scattered throughout the town. “People can expect dozens of garage sales throughout our community,” he explained, emphasizing the potential for discovering hidden gems.

This year, nearly 30 households have signed up to participate in the sale, with more expected to join in as the weekend unfolds. The anticipation has been building, as many residents have already begun putting up signs to direct potential shoppers.

“We’ve noticed that people are excitedly preparing for the event, and we have several last-minute participants who are quickly setting up their signs across the community,” Jones noted. He expressed hope that residents from the surrounding areas of Central Alberta will make their way to Ponoka to take part in the search for great finds.

The garage sale event has been a local tradition for the past four years, successfully bringing together people interested in uncovering hidden treasures while also showcasing what Ponoka has to offer.

“This is not just about finding bargains; it’s a chance for residents and visitors to explore the community and discover all the wonderful amenities and activities available in Ponoka,” said Jones, highlighting the dual benefit of the event.

For those looking to navigate the various sale locations, a map guide has been created to facilitate easy access to the participating homes. Additionally, printed copies of the garage sale map can be found at several key locations, including the town office on 50 Street, the Ponoka Arena Complex, and the Ponoka Aquaplex.

Residents who missed the registration deadline but still wish to participate are encouraged to post their sale details on the Town of Ponoka’s official Facebook page, ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to take part in the weekend’s festivities.

The garage sale extravaganza kicks off today, July 19, and will continue through to July 21, providing ample time for treasure hunters to explore the numerous sales. Whether searching for vintage items, collectibles, or simply enjoying the experience of community interaction, this weekend promises to be a memorable one for Ponoka and its visitors alike.
