Power Outage in Central Emporia Resolved After Several Hours
On Saturday evening, a significant power outage occurred in central Emporia, affecting approximately 1,900 customers.
The outage began around 5 pm in an area bordered by Ninth Street to the north, Fourth Street to the south, State Street to the east, and Rural Street to the west.
According to Gina Penzig, Director of Corporate Communications for Evergy, the outage was caused by wildlife interference.
Repair crews were required to reroute power to allow for the de-energization and repair of the damaged circuit.
Despite the initial outage affecting a substantial number of customers, Penzig noted that the majority of those impacted did not experience a complete loss of power throughout the entire duration of the incident.
Power was fully restored to the area by around 10 pm, concluding several hours of repairs.
