Predators Trade Cody Glass to Penguins
The Nashville Predators have made a notable move, trading forward Cody Glass along with two draft picks to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Jordan Frasca.
In the deal, the Predators sent Glass, a third-round pick in 2025 which was originally owned by Minnesota, and a sixth-round pick in 2026. Glass, who is 25 years old, had a tough season last year, playing only 41 games due to injuries, including a knee issue that kept him out for several weeks.
During his limited time on the ice, he managed to score just six goals and seven assists, a significant drop from his breakout performance of 35 points in the 2022-23 season. On the other hand, Frasca, a 23-year-old forward from Caledon, Ontario, is stepping up his game after signing an entry-level contract with the Penguins in 2022. He’s expected to be assigned to the Predators’ ECHL affiliate, the Atlanta Gladiators.
This trade comes shortly after Predators’ general manager made big moves in acquiring four players, utilizing almost all of his available cap space. Moving Glass, whose cap hit is $2.5 million, to the Penguins allows the Predators to fit under the NHL’s salary cap of $88 million.
Interestingly, Glass didn’t play in any of the Predators’ six playoff games against Vancouver and seemed to be losing favor with coach Andrew Brunette. With the addition of new players like Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault, he would likely have found making the team roster quite challenging.
Glass joined the Predators in the summer of 2021 as part of a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers. He played 121 games for Nashville, tallying up 20 goals and 29 assists. Originally a first-round pick by the Vegas Golden Knights in 2018, this trade to Pittsburgh may offer him more playing time as he joins a rebuilding team.
