Preparations Underway for the Announcement of Larry the Cat’s Passing
Senior British officials in the Prime Minister‘s office at 10 Downing Street have developed a communication plan to announce the eventual passing of Larry the cat, a cherished resident of the Prime Minister’s residence.
This document, referred to by the code name ‘Larry’s Bridges’, draws a poignant parallel to the detailed plans established for public announcements related to the deaths of senior members of the royal family.
For instance, the plans for the announcement of Queen Elizabeth II‘s death were code-named Operation London Bridge, while the preparations for King Charles‘s passing are known as Operation Menai Bridge, referencing a historic bridge in Wales.
Larry the cat has been a beloved figure at the Palace of Westminster since he was brought to Downing Street during Prime Minister David Cameron‘s administration. He was designated as ‘in charge of mice’, a title he has upheld throughout the years.
Despite the turnover of numerous Prime Ministers, including Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, and Rishi Sunak, Larry remains a permanent resident of Downing Street.
According to an unnamed source quoted in The Times, the ‘Larry Bridges’ plan is intended to communicate his passing to the public with sensitivity.
Given Larry’s age, estimated to be around 17 years, sources indicate that the government has prepared press releases and graphics to be disseminated upon the sad day of his departure. Such materials are said to be securely stored on the Downing Street IT system.
The Cabinet Office has established a biography that highlights Larry’s contributions during his time in residence, stating that he has significantly impacted public sentiment and has become a staple at major political events.
Initially adopted from Battersea Cats Home, Larry joined the household for the enjoyment of the Cameron family and has continued to endear himself to the British public, receiving gifts and treats.
