In the ongoing Lok Sabha Election 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the race in Varanasi with over 40,000 votes. Varanasi, a historical city in Uttar Pradesh, holds significant political importance as PM Modi seeks a third consecutive win from this constituency. He is facing competition from Ajay Rai of the Congress, who is part of an alliance with the Samajwadi Party.

Varanasi, also known as Banaras and Kashi, has been a stronghold for the BJP, except for a single term between 2004 and 2009. The constituency comprises five assembly constituencies including Rohaniya, Varanasi North, Varanasi South, Varanasi Cantt, and Sevapuri, of which BJP holds four seats.

According to the 2011 census data, Scheduled Caste (SC) voters constitute around 10.3% of the electorate in Varanasi, totaling approximately 191,018. Scheduled Tribe (ST) voters make up about 0.5% of the electorate, with around 9,273 voters in the constituency.

Varanasi is not only a political hub but also a cultural and religious center known for its silk weaving, carpet making, and tourism. The city has been home to renowned personalities in the fields of literature, music, and philosophy. It is the base of the Benares Gharana, a prominent music school, and houses Banaras Hindu University (BHU), one of the oldest Sanskrit colleges established in 1791.

The current election results in Varanasi, as Prime Minister Modi maintains a significant lead, will shape the political landscape not only in the city but also at the national level. Stay tuned for more updates on the unfolding Lok Sabha Election 2024 results.
