Pro-Palestinian Protesters Establish Camp at University of Pittsburgh Campus
Pro-Palestinian protesters have set up camp outside the iconic Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh‘s campus in the vibrant Oakland neighborhood.
The demonstrators have erected a makeshift fence and formed a human chain around their encampment to signify their cause.
In a statement posted on their social media account, Pitt Police confirmed the closure of the Cathedral of Learning and William Pitt Union due to the unfolding public disturbance.
The authorities have advised individuals to steer clear of the area and informed that both city and university police units are on their way to address the situation.
When questioned about the message behind their protest, the demonstrators highlighted their discontent with the university’s alleged tacit support for the Israel occupation and called for transparency in Pitt’s financial investments.
The protesters demand full disclosure of the university’s investments and urge for complete divestment of Pitt’s finances, including the endowment, from entities profiting from Israel.
These demonstrations come shortly after the recent conflict in Gaza concluded in late April, which sparked waves of protests and activism across college campuses in the United States.
