A planned protest at Thompson Park in Burnley didn’t turn out as expected.

Rumors circulated on social media about a protest scheduled for August 7 at 1 PM, which urged locals to ‘Burnley rise up! Enough is enough.’

Upon arrival at the park, there were no signs of the protest. Instead, families were going about their daily activities, enjoying the summer holidays despite the rain.

The police had a small presence, with officers seen patrolling the park and police vans driving around the area.

Outside the park, some graffiti messages appeared that spread a peaceful message. One notable phrase was, ‘Love thy neighbour. No room 4 racism,’ which was found at the entrance on Ormerod Road.

Similar messages were also seen written in orange chalk a bit further down the same road.
