Elinor «Elly» Tatum, the publisher of Amsterdam News, has expressed her honor in leading a newspaper that has been delivering news from a Black perspective since 1909. Following in the footsteps of her father, Wilbert «Bill» Tatum, Elinor Tatum has been committed to providing news that is often overlooked by mainstream media.

In a significant achievement, Tatum was recognized by Editor & Publisher as the first Black woman publisher to receive an award in its 125-year history. This acknowledgment reflects her dedication to providing no-paywall journalism to the Black community, which is the largest Black and Brown community in the United States.

Tatum’s leadership has been instrumental in solidifying the paper’s mission to serve its readership with integral news and fostering community support, as emphasized by her statement welcoming readers to the «Amsterdam News family.»
