Quincy Wilson, 16, Set to Shine in Olympic 4×400 Relay
Quincy Wilson, a remarkable 16-year-old athlete from Virginia, is ready to take the spotlight at the Paris Olympics. This high school star from Bullis School in Maryland will lead off the U.S. men’s 4×400 meter relay team in the preliminaries on Friday morning.
Wilson made waves by finishing sixth at the U.S. Olympic Trials, earning a spot in the relay pool. Coached by Mike Marsh, he’s been impressing everyone with his recent performances, clocking some amazing times in the 400-meter race. Just last month, he ran an astounding 44.20 seconds at the Holloway Pro Classic, bringing excitement to track and field fans.
Since June, Wilson has completed four consecutive races under 45 seconds, showcasing his incredible talent. His impressive streak includes times of 44.66, 44.59, 44.94, and 44.20 seconds. He also holds both the World U18 record and the high school national record, becoming the first American teenager to beat Darrell Robinson’s long-standing record of 44.69 seconds set back in 1982.
Wilson arrived in Paris ahead of the opening ceremonies and has been taking in the U.S. team’s dominating performance in track and field, with them collecting 19 medals so far, including six golds. Although he wasn’t part of the mixed relay team that broke a world record earlier this month, Wilson is gearing up for his own big moment.
His race is highly anticipated, with many expecting it to mark a historic moment for the U.S. track and field team, as he would become the youngest athlete ever to compete on the squad. Scheduled to run around 5:05 a.m. EST, Wilson’s debut in Olympic competition is set to capture the eyes of many fans.
Reflecting on this incredible opportunity, Wilson expressed his joy, saying, “When I got the call, I was like, I was ecstatic. I started running around the house. It was just a moment for me because everybody dreams about going to the Olympics as a young kid.” His journey started back in 2016, when he first began running the 400, inspired by the Olympic Games in Rio.
Now, with his chance finally here, everyone is excited to see what this young star will bring to the relay team.
