Rahul Gandhi Supports Tamil Nadu’s Fight Against NEET, Seeks Justice for Students
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has reached out to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressing solidarity with the state’s battle against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and calling for justice to be served to students impacted by the exam.
In his letter to Chief Minister Stalin, Gandhi highlighted that he had personally interacted with numerous students who had suffered due to what he described as a ‘massive failure’ on the part of the Union Government and the National Testing Agency in conducting NEET.
Stressing the urgency of the situation, Gandhi emphasized that the 24 lakh students affected by the NEET debacle deserved swift resolution and justice.
The Congress leader also commended Chief Minister Stalin for his proactive stance on the NEET issue, particularly referencing a letter dated June 28, 2024, in which the Tamil Nadu government raised concerns over the flaws in the NEET system.
Furthermore, Gandhi’s communication with the Chief Minister underscored the Congress party’s ongoing efforts to address the challenges posed by NEET, especially following the premature announcement of NEET-UG results earlier in June 2024.
Addressing the Lok Sabha, Gandhi pointed out that NEET had shed light on significant shortcomings within the higher education framework, particularly affecting students from marginalized backgrounds.
In a move to rally support from opposition-led states, Chief Minister Stalin had also penned letters to the Chief Ministers of states such as Delhi, Punjab, and West Bengal, urging them to pass resolutions in their respective legislative assemblies urging the Centre to abolish NEET.
This call to action came in the wake of Tamil Nadu Assembly‘s unanimous decision to seek an exemption from NEET, citing irregularities and inequities in the exam process.
