Rainfall Warning Issued for Metro Vancouver
Environment Canada has announced a rainfall warning for Metro Vancouver, highlighting the potential for significant rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.
The warning covers the regions of Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and Howe Sound, with estimated rainfall amounts reaching up to 50 mm starting from Friday night into Saturday.
According to Environment Canada, a low-pressure system originating from the Oregon Coast is expected to move inland and generate heavy rain in the early evening hours. This intense rainfall may persist overnight and gradually taper into lighter showers on Saturday.
The weather agency cautioned that heavy downpours could result in flash floods, leading to water accumulation on roads. There is a likelihood of localized flooding occurring in low-lying areas.
Additionally, residents are advised to remain vigilant regarding possible washouts near rivers, creeks, and culverts. The BC River Forecast Centre has also issued a high streamflow advisory for various tributaries in the South Coast and Lower Fraser regions, including locations like Whistler and Lillooet.
Residents are encouraged to take precautions during this weather event, as conditions could be hazardous.
