Recall Issued for Canned Coffee Products Over Botulism Concerns
Nearly 300 types of canned coffee products distributed nationwide through different coffee roasters and retailers are being recalled due to potential botulism contamination, Snapchill LLC, a Wisconsin-based company, announced.
The recall, involving a variety of metal can sizes ranging from 7 oz to 12 oz, comes after Snapchill LLC discovered that its manufacturing process could lead to the growth of botulinum toxin, a deadly poison in low acid canned foods, according to a statement from the FDA.
Botulism is a rare but severe illness that can cause paralysis, difficulty breathing, and even death, with symptoms manifesting within hours to two weeks after consumption, as reported by the CDC.
The canned coffee products, sold under various roaster and brand names, are identifiable by the labeling ‘Produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC’ and ‘Snapchill Coffee’, as highlighted in the recall notice issued by the FDA.
No illnesses related to the recalled products have been reported, and Snapchill LLC is working to rectify its manufacturing process to comply with FDA regulations.
Customers who have purchased the recalled canned coffee are advised to return them to the point of purchase for a refund or dispose of them properly to prevent any potential health risks.
