The play areas in East Devon are set for a big change! Several play spaces, like the ones in Exmouth at Baker Close, Carter Avenue, Byron Way, and Littleham Village Hall, are going to be refurbished.

And it doesn’t stop there! Honiton’s play areas, including Whitebridges, Willow Walk, and Allhallows, will also be getting upgrades. Furthermore, Whimple’s Slewton Crescent and Ottery St Mary’s Land of Canaan play areas are on the list for a makeover too.

If you live nearby, this is your chance to have a say! Community members are invited to share their thoughts about what they want in these refurbished play areas. You can do this on the EDDC’s Commonplace consultation website until 5pm on August 23, 2024.

The consultation will help the council find out what local families think about the current play areas and what kinds of fun activities they’d like to see in the new designs.

Once the consultation wraps up, the council will choose a supplier to create the new equipment. The goal is to have the shiny new play areas installed by summer 2025!

Councillor Geoff Jung, the EDDC’s Portfolio Holder for Coast, Country, and Environment, expressed his excitement, saying, “Recent upgrades to East Devon’s play areas in Budleigh Salterton, Beer, and Exmouth have proved very popular. I am delighted that nine extra locations will be refurbished, and I encourage local families to share their thoughts about what they would like to see at their nearest play area.”
