Regina Centers Help Kids with School Supplies
As the school year approaches, families in Regina are getting some much-needed help with rising school supply costs. Organizations in the area are stepping up to support students heading back to school.
The Rainbow Youth Centre is one of the organizations assisting families. They gather essential items throughout the year and provide them all in a single backpack. Sandra Pfeifer, the youth care program supervisor, highlighted that the current economic situation makes it hard for parents to afford supplies on top of other expenses like food and shelter.
One parent, Jaime Rockthunder, shared her experience receiving a backpack from the Centre. She remembered past struggles with buying school supplies and knows how much of a difference having the right materials can make for her child’s school experience.
Last week, the North Central Family Centre (NCFC) held its fourth annual Back to School Bash, where nearly 500 backpacks filled with school supplies were handed out. Kimberley Wenger, the executive director of NCFC, mentioned that they are now gathering more supplies for those still in need.
They want to ensure that every child feels confident and empowered as they head back to school, and are encouraging donations for school supplies through their website.
