Remains Found in Search for Missing British Teenager Jay Slater in Tenerife
Rescuers on the Spanish island of Tenerife have made a significant discovery in the search for missing British teenager Jay Slater. The Guardia Civil announced that remains have been found in the Masca area, where Slater disappeared in June.
Slater, a 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer from Lancashire, vanished after attending a music festival on the island. He was last seen walking alone in the Rural de Teno national park, a remote location far from the holiday resort where he was staying with friends.
The Guardia Civil mentioned that the discovery of the body could indicate an accidental fall in the inaccessible cliffs of Masca. Despite the challenging terrain, different units of the Guardia Civil had been actively involved in the search for nearly a month.
Volunteer rescuers, including teams from LBT Global, had continued the search efforts, with the challenging landscape making the operation particularly difficult. Helicopters, dogs, drones, and ground teams were deployed in the extensive search across the area.
Slater’s disappearance had sparked widespread concern, with friends and family desperately awaiting news. His mother, Debbie Duncan, expressed the ongoing anguish that their family from Lancashire was enduring, urging an end to online speculation and conspiracy theories.
According to the Guardia Civil, the body was found in an extremely rugged terrain, requiring the use of emergency rescue services. The discovery, close to Slater’s last known phone location, included his possessions and clothing.
LBT Global, the charity supporting the family, confirmed the find and highlighted that formal identification processes, including a postmortem and forensic inquiries, would follow. The community continues to mourn the loss of Jay Slater, a young man with a promising future ahead.
